Introducing
Dress for Success Black Hills-South Dakota
Approximately three years ago (fall 2016), a few of us began to embark on a Dress for Success adventure for the Black Hills area. Since then, we have opened and run a successful boutique for the past year and have suited over 50 women!
As you may/may not know, this organization began in 1996 when a law student, Nancy Lublin, received a $5,000 inheritance from her great grandfather and became the founder of Dress for Success® with the idea to enable women who once faced personal hardships to earn their own money and build new lives.
Since then, the grassroots start-up, which began with the help of three nuns from Spanish Harlem, has grown into an international not-for-profit organization promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women worldwide. Today Dress for Success serves women in almost 130 cities across the world and is uniquely positioned as a global leader in women’s employment issues.
The mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.
At the Dress for Success Black Hills chapter, we are committed to this mission and working to empower the women in our community to find a better world of work.
We do this by providing clothing, accessories, coaching, and resources to put their best foot forward. This happens by providing referred women with their first interview suiting, resume review and, interview coaching. The second appointment is their weeks’ worth of separates where we help to provide a weeks’ worth of professional clothing that they will be able to mix and match. We also discuss the world of work and what their first day, week and month on the job may look like and the information they should prepare to obtain to be successful.
